On April 14 at noon, Bloomfield College professor, Dr. Jeanne Nutter was awarded a lifetime achievement award for her work in oral history.

Dr. Nutter, who has been teaching at the College since 2001, was honored with the Forest Pogue Award by the Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR). The luncheon was held during OHMAR's annual meeting at the Hagley Museum and Library Soda House. The public joined to celebrate alongside Dr. Nutter as she spoke about her life's work.

Dr. Nutter's list of accomplishments include nothing short of publishing books, creating exhibits, producing films that place in film festivals, and chairing and championing different organizations such as the African American History and Tourism Working Group for the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation. Here, she helped produce a brochure highlighting African American tourism in Wilmington that won the Delaware Governor's Cultural Heritage Tourism Award.

She was the recipient of the 2000 Wilmington NAACP Award in Education and the Phi Delta Kappa Leadership Award. In 2002, she was inducted into the Delaware Women's Hall of Fame. The Delaware State Education Association awarded her one of the 2004 Humanities and Civil Rights Awards. In 2015, she was awarded the James H. Gilliam, Jr Humanitarian Award by the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League.

"When I think of the phrase 'Lifetime Achievement,' I believe it means that it matters how things happen, and most importantly, by whom," said Bloomfield College President Richard Levao. "I feel it is safe to say there exists only one Dr. Jeanne Nutter in this world, and I am lucky to know her and to work beside her."

Dr. Nutter earned her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cincinnati and her Ph.D. from Howard University.
